For classic fluffy basmati rice, rinse 1 cup in a fine-mesh strainer until water runs clear. In a pot, heat 1/2 tbsp ghee or oil (optional). Sauté rinsed rice for 1 min, add 1 1/2 cups water and 1/2 tsp salt. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat, cover tightly, and simmer 15-20 mins until water is absorbed. Remove from heat, let stand covered 5 mins, fluff with a fork, and enjoy!

One-Pot Basmati Rice Pulao

Ingredients:

  • 1.5 cups Basmati Rice (rinsed and soaked for 30 mins)
  • 2 tbsp Oil/Ghee
  • 1 tsp Cumin Seeds
  • 1 Bay Leaf
  • 1 Black Cardamom
  • 1 inch Cinnamon Stick
  • Sliced Onion (1)
  • Ginger-Garlic paste (1 tbsp)
  • Chopped Vegetables (your choice, e.g. carrots, peas)
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tsp Turmeric Powder
  • 1 tsp Red Chilli Powder
  • 1/2 tsp Coriander Powder
  • 3.5 cups Water
  • Chopped Mint Leaves (optional)

Steps:

  • Heat oil/ghee in a pot. Add cumin seeds, bay leaf, cardamom, cinnamon. Let splutter.
  • Add onions, cook till translucent. Add ginger-garlic paste, cook for a minute.
  • Add chopped vegetables, salt, turmeric, red chili powder, coriander powder. Cook for 2-3 minutes.
  • Add soaked rice and water. Bring to a boil, then simmer covered for 15 mins (or until rice is cooked).
  • Fluff rice with a fork. Garnish with chopped mint (optional).
  • Enjoy!

Basmati Rice Pudding

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup Basmati Rice (rinsed)
  • 2 cups Milk
  • 1/4 cup Sugar
  • 1/4 tsp Cardamom Powder (or 1 pod, split)
  • 1/2 tsp Vanilla Extract (or 1/2 vanilla bean)
  • Raisins (optional)

Steps:

  • Combine rice, milk, sugar, cardamom, and vanilla in a saucepan.
